A GSTN advisory dated 1 October 2026 introduced a Multistate Registration option on the GST portal. A business can now apply for GST registration in several States/UTs at once under the same PAN, instead of entering the same details in a separate application for each State.
How it works
- Open the Multistate Registration tab on the portal home page and pick your States/UTs. The portal generates a Master TRN.
- Under the Master TRN, fill in the common details once: business, promoters or partners, authorised signatory, authorised representative, goods and services.
- GSTN says the Master TRN must be submitted within 15 days.
- The portal then creates one TRN per State/UT with the common details pre-filled. Complete each with the place of business, State-specific details and Aadhaar authentication.
Who can use it
For now, only Normal Taxpayer applications. Using it is optional. Each State/UT is still a separate registration with its own GSTIN, returns and compliance.
