What is TDS Return Filing?
Quarterly reporting of tax deducted at source
Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) is a mechanism where the person making specified payments (deductor) deducts tax at prescribed rates before making the payment to the recipient (deductee). The deductor must deposit this TDS with the government and file quarterly TDS returns reporting all deductions made.
TDS return filing is mandatory for all entities with a valid TAN (Tax Deduction Account Number) who have deducted tax during the quarter. The return contains details of the deductor, deductees, payment amounts, TDS rates, and challan details. Accurate and timely filing ensures compliance and enables deductees to claim tax credit in their income tax returns.
