GSTAT Appeal Deadline Extended to 31 July 2026: Last Chance for Old GST Disputes

Written by Timo Vikson • Published on 14 Jul 2026 • Read time minutes

The Finance Ministry has extended the deadline for filing backlog appeals before the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) from 30 June to 31 July 2026. The extension came after the GSTAT portal was overwhelmed — roughly 30,000 appeals landed in the final 15 days, with peaks of 5,500 filings a day.

Who this affects

Any business holding an adverse GST order from the first appellate or revisional authority communicated between 1 July 2017 and 31 March 2026. This is the one-time window to move those old disputes to the new tribunal.

What to do

  • Identify any pending GST orders in that window where you did not get relief.
  • File the appeal on the GSTAT portal by 31 July 2026, with the mandatory 10% pre-deposit of the disputed tax.
  • Miss the date and the tribunal route for these legacy disputes is gone — only writ remedies would remain.
